Growing up in the Midwest as an only child, I became acutely aware of the importance of financial planning very early. My mother passed away when I was 12, and a few years later my father suffered his first in a series of heart attacks and was unable to work for several months. When I was a junior in college, my father had another heart attack the week my college tuition was due. Fortunately, he was a planner and a saver so we had a home that was paid for, insurance, and money in the bank. A divorce in my late 20’s brought the message home once again. I knew that I had to take care of myself financially and that required planning. All of these experiences informed my future career decisions.

I finished my undergraduate degree at Michigan State University and a graduate degree at George Washington University then began a successful career selling word processing equipment for Wang Labs. I remarried and moved to California where I decided to leave the high-tech world behind to begin a family. Around this time I was offered an opportunity to join a boutique financial services firm. My husband and I had been clients of this firm so I was intrigued by the potential to learn more and help others navigate a financial maze I had so often encountered personally.

Immediately, I began taking courses to get licensed and acquire my financial planner certification. After several years, I formed my own firm and over the years that firm grew. Many of those early clients are now clients of Harris Private Wealth. Joining Harris Private Wealth has seemed like a natural next step in the evolution of my business and life.
